My mom thinks Doctor Who is stupid. Reblog this- I’m going to show her how many people actually love it. Please.

"[T]his document helpfully underscored the critical point that is otherwise difficult to convey: when you endorse the application of a radical state power because the specific target happens to be someone you dislike and think deserves it, you’re necessarily institutionalizing that power in general. That’s why political leaders, when they want to seize extremist powers or abridge core liberties, always choose in the first instance to target the most marginalized figures: because they know many people will acquiesce not because they support that power in theory but because they hate the person targeted. But if you cheer when that power is first invoked based on that mentality - I’m glad Obama assassinated Awlaki without charges because he was a Bad Man! - then you lose the ability to object when the power is used in the future in ways you dislike (or by leaders you distrust), because you’ve let it become institutionalized."

Our peace eternal making

kre-do:

Break forth, O beauteous heavenly light,
And usher in the morning;
O shepherds, shrink not with afright,
But hear the angel’s warning.
This Child, now weak in infancy,
Our confidence and joy shall be,
The power of Satan breaking,
Our peace eternal making.

Tumblr’s getting a dashboard redesign today, which will allow people to post straight from the dashboard rather than a separate interface. You know, like Twitter. ”Now you’re making posts the same way you’re reading them,” the company says. Thoughts?

Where mine? Want.

Hello to all you developers, designers, small agency heads, and startup founders — in just a few hours (5:30 PM ET) I’m co-teaching a General Assembly online class with Reclip.it founder and fellow Ladies Trekking ambassador Cheryl Yeoh about how to do business with huge companies. A spot in the class is $10 (sales end an hour before the class starts, so act now!) and all proceeds are going to Ladies Trekking’s charity work in Tanzania.
Cheryl will be speaking from the startup side, and I’ll be speaking from the big-company side; we’ll be covering things like who within a company you should approach strategically, how to ensure to the partner company that you’re a well-oiled operation, and how to make sure you’re set up to deliver the results they want.
As a very special preview, here is one of my slides. Don’t worry, the stuff we’re teaching isn’t this boneheadedly obvious. But I promise there are more cats. In fact, a total of 8 cats appear in the presentation, which means that you can think of the cost of the class as $1.25 per cat. That’s a bargain!
Big thanks to General Assembly for working with us to help make this happen.
